Green hydrogen project developer Liquid Wind has filed for bankruptcy, according to multiple Swedish-language reports.

This is despite applying for an environmental permit for one of its large-scale developments, EFÖvik, in Sweden just last week—suggesting that the Liquid Wind only days ago expected to be in a position to continue working on the project.

The developer aimed to build multiple projects producing 100,000 tonnes a year of green hydrogen-based e-methanol in Sweden and Finland.

In November 2024, Liquid Wind had raised €44m, its largest funding round at the time, from its existing backers, Germany energy firm Uniper and private equity company Hycap, as well as Samsung Ventures.

Hydrogen Insight has reached out for further details on Liquid Wind’s decision to file for bankruptcy.

Liquid Wind had been the original company behind FlagshipONE, an e-methanol plant which was bought by Orsted, reached a final investment decision, and then scrapped by the Danish utility in 2024.
