Neoenergia and Honda bringing hydrogen mobility to Brazil

The partnership will focus on Neoenergia’s first green hydrogen refueling station, set to open in Brasília in December 2025.

Neoenergia and Honda announce a strategic collaboration to promote green hydrogen as a clean fuel alternative in Brazil. The partnership will center on Neoenergia’s first green hydrogen refueling station, set to open in Brasília in December 2025.

The project, backed by more than R$30 million (€5.4 million) under Brazil’s Research, Development and Innovation Program (PDI) regulated by ANEEL, aims to accelerate the country’s transition to low-carbon mobility. Honda will contribute by testing its CR-V FCEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV powered by hydrogen fuel cells, over a six-month trial period.

Neoenergia, controlled by Spanish energy giant Iberdrola, already operates similar projects in Europe and views Brazil as a future leader in clean energy technologies.

Executives from both companies highlighted the role of innovation in achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia, said:

This collaboration reinforces our commitment to sustainable technologies,

Honda’s Arata Ichinose added that Brazil has “all the conditions to become a global leader in green hydrogen.”
