China Coal Green Energy's 1.2-GW Renewable Hydrogen Project Secures Filing Approval with $357 Million Investment

The grid-connected renewable power direct-supply hydrogen production project developed by China Coal Green Energy Technology (Ulanqab) Co., Ltd. has secured project filing approval in Shangdu County, Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia.
According to the filing documents, the project will be located in Bolihujing Township, Shangdu County, with a total investment of RMB 2.4265 billion (approximately US$357 million). Funding will include RMB 485.31 million in equity contributed by the project company and RMB 1.9412 billion in bank financing. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2026 and be completed by December 2028.
The project will occupy 461 mu (approximately 30.7 hectares) and include a total floor area of 65,654 square meters. Planned facilities comprise eight standardized production buildings, three warehouses, auxiliary buildings, and supporting infrastructure. Process equipment for hydrogen production and related operations will also be installed.
Located in central Inner Mongolia, the integrated wind-solar-to-hydrogen project spans Xijingzi Town, Tunkendui Town, Sandaoqing Township, and Qitai Town in Shangdu County, Ulanqab. It will install 1.2 GW of renewable energy capacity, including 900 MW of wind power and 300 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) generation.
The project is designed to produce 50,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually and provide 480,000 standard cubic meters of hydrogen storage capacity. Supporting infrastructure will include a 180-MW/360-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) and two new 220-kV step-up substations, enabling stable integration of renewable electricity with large-scale hydrogen production.
