China's Kaishan Holding Group Co., Ltd. has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Halliburton Energy Services, Inc. to explore collaboration on geothermal energy, green hydrogen and green ammonia projects, expanding its presence in low-carbon energy technologies.

The MOU was signed in Loxley, Alabama, and establishes a framework for cooperation that combines Halliburton's expertise in drilling and subsurface technologies with Kaishan's capabilities in geothermal power generation, integrated geothermal development and renewable hydrogen projects.

Under the agreement, the two companies intend to jointly evaluate technologies and project opportunities aimed at improving the efficiency and economics of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) while supporting broader clean energy development.

Halliburton is expected to contribute its expertise in high-temperature and high-pressure well construction, directional drilling, hydraulic fracturing and digital drilling technologies. Kaishan will provide its experience in manufacturing modular geothermal power generation equipment, developing geothermal resources across the value chain—from resource exploration to project operation—and advancing green hydrogen and green ammonia projects.

The companies plan to explore collaboration across a range of low-carbon and renewable energy applications, including Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), drilling optimization, integrated geothermal project execution, digital drilling and subsurface optimization technologies, green hydrogen production, green ammonia projects and related clean energy infrastructure.

As part of the strategic cooperation framework, the companies also intend to evaluate the deployment of modular geothermal power generation systems and study the integration of Halliburton's drilling technologies with Kaishan's geothermal power equipment.

According to the MOU, the agreement is intended to define the scope of future strategic cooperation. The companies will evaluate potential project opportunities, exchange technical expertise and best practices, and consider joint project development and execution strategies. Any specific projects, commercial arrangements or implementation mechanisms will be subject to separate definitive agreements, which may include Strategic Agreements and/or Master Service Agreements.

Kaishan said the partnership is expected to strengthen its capabilities in Enhanced Geothermal Systems development by combining its geothermal technologies with Halliburton's drilling and reservoir engineering expertise. The company also sees opportunities to participate in low-carbon and renewable energy projects led by Halliburton and to expand cooperation into higher-value applications beyond geothermal power generation, including the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia using geothermal energy.

The company noted that the MOU is non-binding and remains at the project development and technical evaluation stage. It is not expected to have a material impact on the company's financial performance during the current fiscal year.
