Fuzhou University Affiliated Provincial Hospital's Ammonia-Hydrogen Green Power Project Selected for IHECC Green‑Hospital Practical Case Repository

FUZHOU — The International Health Exchange and Cooperation Center NHC PRC (IHECC) recently announced the results of its "2026 Green‑Hospital Practical Case Repository." The project submitted by Fuzhou University Affiliated Provincial Hospital, titled "Zero-Carbon Hospital Pioneer: Innovative Application of Ammonia-Hydrogen Power Generation Technology in Hospital Pollution Source Monitoring Scenarios," was officially selected in the "Green Healthcare" repository.
In April 2026, an ammonia-hydrogen fuel cell power generation unit — a First-of-a-Kind Major Technical Equipment certified by the National Energy Administration (NEA) — was put into operation at the Jinshan Campus Pollution‑source Monitoring Center. Developed in partnership with Fuzhou University Zijin Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd., the installation marks the first-ever application of ammonia-hydrogen green power technology within the healthcare sector.
Utilizing liquid ammonia as a hydrogen storage carrier, the equipment integrates low-temperature ammonia cracking hydrogen production with PEM fuel cell technology to enable on-demand hydrogen generation and power dispatch. Operating with zero harmful emissions (yielding only water and nitrogen), the system incorporates intelligent management and remote monitoring capabilities to supply uninterrupted backup power for critical water quality monitoring instruments, including ammonia nitrogen and chemical oxygen demand analyzer(CODcr).
Based on the technical know‑how of the National Engineering Research Center of Chemical Fertilizer Catalyst (NERC‑CFC) at Fuzhou University, the project has verified the feasibility of ammonia‑hydrogen power generation equipment delivering continuous and stable power for pollution‑source monitoring in hospitals, offering practical references for improving the energy structure of medical systems.
