TIANJIN, China — Rongcheng New Energy Group and Suzhou Qingde Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. have signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Tianjin to expand hydrogen applications across agriculture, beauty and healthcare, industry, and energy storage.

With support from the Southern Jiangsu Institute of Molecular Engineering of Peking University, the two companies will focus on jointly developing and promoting hydrogen-based fertilizers while deepening cooperation in hydrogen-related beauty and healthcare products and industrial applications.

Rongcheng New Energy, an integrated hydrogen energy solutions provider, has established a value chain spanning hydrogen production, storage, transportation, refueling, end-use applications, research and development, and equipment manufacturing. The company follows a “one core, two pillars” development model centered on a digital platform, with the “hydrogen-plus” and “vehicle-plus” economies as its two pillars. It has put 1,255 hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks into operation and operates 17 hydrogen refueling stations, supported by experience in project delivery and operations across multiple application scenarios.

Suzhou Qingde Hydrogen Energy Technology is a hydrogen technology company supported by the Southern Jiangsu Institute of Molecular Engineering of Peking University. It has developed high-efficiency, safety-focused nanomaterials for hydrogen generation through hydrolysis, with applications in hydrogen-related biomedicine and agriculture. The company holds multiple proprietary intellectual property rights and has worked with major industry players on projects.

Under the agreement, the partners will pursue cooperation in three main areas.

First, they will promote the commercialization and wider application of hydrogen-related healthcare technologies and develop a new business segment focused on beauty and healthcare products.

Second, they will apply hydrogen-related technologies to modern agriculture, jointly develop and promote hydrogen-based fertilizers, and explore smart farming models designed to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impacts.

Third, they will explore the potential of hydrogen energy storage and promote its application in renewable energy integration and grid peak shaving, with the aim of developing new growth opportunities for the hydrogen industry.

The companies will establish a dedicated working group and a collaborative mechanism linking industry, academia and research. Their work will cover technology development, demonstration projects and market expansion, extending hydrogen applications beyond transport and logistics into healthcare, agriculture and industrial applications.

The partnership comes as China advances comprehensive hydrogen application pilot programmes across five city clusters, including the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, following approvals by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Finance and the National Development and Reform Commission. The programmes reflect a broader shift from a focus on fuel cell vehicles towards wider deployment of hydrogen across multiple sectors.

Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone, where Rongcheng New Energy is based, has developed an industrial ecosystem covering hydrogen production, storage, transportation, refueling, end-use applications and equipment manufacturing. The zone has attracted hydrogen industry companies and is seeking to strengthen collaboration across the value chain.

The zone plans to continue improving its hydrogen industry ecosystem, support collaborative innovation and the development of new application scenarios, and help Tianjin strengthen its position as a major hydrogen industry hub in China.

The two companies said they would use the agreement as a starting point for deeper technological cooperation, industrial coordination and resource sharing. They aim to develop a model for cross-sector hydrogen applications and support the implementation of China's comprehensive hydrogen application pilot programmes, contributing to the wider green transition of the economy and society.
