The Board of Directors has awarded SympH2ony (Toyota-Tsusho and Messer) the construction and operation of a hydrogen refueling station, essential in the energy transition and the decarbonization of port activity.

This is a strategic project that combines the production and supply of green hydrogen with comprehensive zero-emission mobility solutions for fleets and machinery.

The Board of Directors of the Port of Barcelona today awarded SympH2ony, the joint venture created by Toyota Tsusho Europe and Messer, the contract for the construction and operation of the Port's future hydrogen refueling station. The project, which will involve an investment of over €20 million, goes beyond the installation of energy infrastructure and is part of the alliance's strategy to promote a comprehensive green hydrogen-based mobility ecosystem in Europe, especially in logistics and industrial environments.

The new refueling station will serve trucks, buses, and port and logistics equipment from both the Port of Barcelona and the surrounding areas, and will act as a catalyst for the progressive transformation of fleets and equipment towards zero-emission mobility, one of the major challenges in decarbonizing transport and port activity.

The hydrogen refueling station, to be built on a 7,000 m² plot on Cal Bitxot Street in the ZAL Prat logistics park, will be strategically located to serve the entire Port of El Prat, the ZAL Prat logistics park, the ZAL Barcelona logistics park, the Zona Franca industrial park, and the logistics and industrial zones of El Prat de Llobregat.

The project presented by SympH2ony includes, in addition to the main production and supply unit, mobile units to refuel machinery that cannot be moved to the station, as well as the possibility of connecting future pipelines to large consumers. The plant will have an electrolysis capacity of 3.1 MW in 2030, expandable to 6.2 MW in 2032, at which point it will be able to produce 540 tons of green hydrogen annually.

This equipment will be a pioneer in the state port sector, not only because it will supply hydrogen to land vehicles and port machinery, but also because it will produce it on-site using electrolyzers powered by 100% renewable energy, guaranteeing that the fuel is emissions-neutral and can be classified as green hydrogen.

SympH2ony is a joint venture created in 2024 by Toyota Tsusho Europe and Messer with the aim of accelerating the implementation of hydrogen mobility in Europe, especially in sectors that are difficult to decarbonize. Within this framework, the company acts as a comprehensive solutions provider, combining hydrogen production and supply, refueling infrastructure, fuel cell vehicles, and the services necessary for the operation of zero-emission fleets.

Messer is a world leader in industrial, medical, and specialty gases, with over a century of experience in hydrogen production and management. Toyota Tsusho Europe, a subsidiary of the Toyota Tsusho Corporation, develops projects in Europe related to sustainable mobility value chains, including hydrogen-based transportation solutions. At the Port of Barcelona, SympH2ony will act not only as a hydrogen supplier but also as a technological and operational partner in the transition to zero-emission fleets and machinery. The

new hydrogen refueling station is integrated into the Port of Barcelona's Energy Transition Plan and reinforces its environmental sustainability strategy, contributing to consolidating the Port as a regional hub for the production and distribution of green hydrogen and promoting the implementation of clean fuels as viable and competitive alternatives to fossil fuels.

The concession is granted for a renewable 40-year period and includes the development of surrounding roads and the construction of a roundabout to facilitate vehicle access and egress.
