Hydrogen – Prime Minister Jetten visits the Port of Rotterdam

On 12 August, Prime Minister Rob Jetten visited the Maasvlakte together with Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority. During an extensive three-hour visit, he gained insight into current developments in Rotterdam’s logistics and industrial sectors.

Jetten first visited the APM Terminals container terminal. Container transport is one of the port’s core activities. Containers mainly carry food products, semi-finished goods, and finished products, both for import and export. Many companies depend on reliable container supply chains. The discussion focused, among other things, on both the resilience and the vulnerabilities of Dutch infrastructure.

The second part of the visit consisted of a discussion with various representatives from industry about the investment climate. Many companies are planning investments of hundreds of millions of euros in new, sustainable production facilities but are concerned about whether these investments can generate sufficient returns in the Netherlands. In addition, they often face practical challenges such as grid congestion and nitrogen-related permitting issues.
