The first hydrogen production system at the 170,000-tonne-per-year Liaoyuan Tianying green e-methanol project has completed commissioning and successfully produced hydrogen on its first trial run, marking a key milestone in the project’s start-up process.

Huanqiu Jilin Company, the project’s overall engineering design contractor, is responsible for the engineering design of the project, which is being developed in Liaoyuan, Jilin Province, China.

All production units at the site are now in place and operating in an orderly manner. Integrated commissioning across the project’s full value chain, covering renewable electricity, hydrogen production and methanol synthesis, is progressing. The successful hydrogen output from the first production system marks an important step forward and lays the groundwork for commissioning the remaining hydrogen production units and bringing the overall facility into operation.

The project is described as the world’s largest green e-methanol project. It is a flagship engineering project for Huanqiu Jilin Company as it expands its presence in the green hydrogen and green methanol sectors and develops its new energy business.

The successful completion of this commissioning milestone further strengthens the company’s engineering design capabilities across the clean energy value chain and represents an important step in the development of its low-carbon business.

Building on the project, Huanqiu Jilin Company plans to continue expanding its new energy business, strengthening its end-to-end clean energy engineering capabilities, and advancing technology development and talent cultivation. The company aims to enhance its position in green hydrogen-based chemical manufacturing, with further technological progress supporting regional low-carbon development and the company’s carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
