LINHAI — On August 31^st, the launching ceremony for the 12,500 DWT methanol dual-fuel oil/chemical tanker "MTT INYA" was held in Linhai, Zhejiang Province. This marks the world’s first application of the Type 320 methanol dual-fuel medium-speed engine on ocean-going vessels. The engine which developed by the China Shipbuilding Power Engineering Institute (a subsidiary of CSSC Shipbuilding Industry Group Power Co., Ltd.), signaling that domestic methanol dual-fuel marine propulsion technology has entered the commercial engineering phase.

Built by Linhai Huipu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., the vessel is rated for unrestricted international navigation. Measuring 130 meters in length with a molded depth of 11.8 meters and a deadweight capacity of 12,500 tonnes, the tanker was ordered by MTT Group from Malaysia. It is the lead vessel of a two-ship series and represents MTT Shipping's initial entry into the chemical tanker and liquid bulk transport segment.

On propulsion and environmental performance, the "MTT INYA" incorporates a methanol-diesel dual-fuel system capable of switching between clean and conventional fuels to reduce emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and greenhouse gases in compliance with international maritime environmental standards.

The tanker is equipped with stainless steel cargo tanks. Given the stringent precision and safety requirements associated with methanol dual-fuel systems and stainless steel welding, technical challenges were jointly resolved through collaboration among the China Shipbuilding Power Engineering Institute, China Classification Society (CCS), and NSB Group. In addition, the vessel is fitted with Framo deep-well pumps and adopts a single-compartment single-pump design, with the capacity to carry 14 types of cargo simultaneously.

Following launch, the "MTT INYA" will undergo outfitting, equipment commissioning, mooring trials, and sea trials, with final delivery targeted between October and November 2026. Construction on the second sister vessel is underway at the shipyard, with discussions ongoing between the shipowner and builder for third and fourth follow-on orders.
