A launching ceremony was recently held in Linhai, Taizhou, for the 12,500-DWT methanol dual-fuel chemical and oil tanker MTT Inya. Built by Linhai Huipu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., the vessel is the world’s first oceangoing ship to be equipped with a domestically developed 320-type methanol dual-fuel medium-speed main engine. The project marks a major breakthrough in the domestic development and green transition of China’s marine power equipment, while also supporting Linhai’s efforts to advance the “Zhejiang Shipping” initiative and promote high-quality, coordinated development of its shipping services sector.

MTT Inya measures 130 metres in overall length, with a moulded depth of 11.8 metres and a deadweight tonnage of 12,500 tonnes. The vessel is powered by a methanol-diesel dual-fuel system and can switch flexibly between clean-fuel and conventional-fuel modes. The system helps reduce sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides and greenhouse-gas emissions, enabling the vessel to meet stringent international maritime environmental requirements. By combining low-carbon performance with long-range endurance, the dual-fuel solution can help shipping operators adapt to increasingly stringent global emissions regulations.

In addition to its advanced propulsion system, the vessel is equipped with deepwell pumps supplied by Norwegian company Framo. The vessel adopts a dedicated-pump-per-tank arrangement, enabling it to carry up to 14 different types of cargo simultaneously. The configuration combines technical innovation with practical operational benefits.

The vessel was built by Huipu Shipbuilding, which traces its origins to Lingjiang Shipyard, founded in 1972. With more than five decades of development and accumulated industry experience, the group has established a presence across the shipbuilding and repair, domestic and international shipping, vessel import and export, and marine equipment trading sectors. Its subsidiaries, Linhai Huipu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Linhai Huipu Shipping Co., Ltd., are key players in Linhai’s shipping industry and important contributors to the development of the shipping-services hub along Taizhou’s eastern coast.

The successful launch of MTT Inya further strengthens the links among shipbuilding and repair, port services and shipping services. It is expected to promote deeper integration and coordinated development among the three major industry segments of Taizhou’s eastern coastal shipping hub, providing fresh momentum for the high-end, green and cluster-based development of the regional shipping services sector.
