Ming Yang Smart Energy has officially unveiled its wind-hydrogen integrated technology, with the world’s first commercial application project set to be developed in Rushan, Weihai, Shandong Province.
“In conventional wind-to-hydrogen systems, wind turbines, water electrolysis units and hydrogen storage facilities are typically deployed separately. Most of the electricity generated by wind turbines must first be fed into the public grid before being supplied to hydrogen production facilities, increasing costs,” an official from the Rushan Municipal Development and Reform Bureau said.
Ming Yang Smart Energy’s wind-hydrogen integrated unit is designed to combine wind power generation and hydrogen production. It vertically integrates power supply, centralized control and hydrogen production systems inside the wind turbine tower, enabling green hydrogen to be produced near the source of renewable electricity and consumed close to the point of production.
The integrated design connects green hydrogen production with downstream applications, creating new opportunities for hydrogen use across multiple industries and offering an alternative approach to developing a new-type power system.
To strengthen Rushan’s new-energy equipment manufacturing supply chain and foster the development of wind-hydrogen integration, the Rushan Municipal Development and Reform Bureau organized local companies to participate in industry exhibitions. The initiative aimed to attract investment across the supply chain, establish connections with advanced hydrogen equipment manufacturers and support the commercialization of innovative technologies in Rushan.
During the exhibition, the bureau held discussions with wind power equipment manufacturers, including Shanghai Fengling Renewables, focusing on component supply and supply-chain collaboration. Several companies expressed interest in Rushan’s business environment and indicated that they planned to visit the city to explore potential cooperation.
The demonstration project for Ming Yang Smart Energy’s wind-hydrogen integrated unit is progressing. Rushan plans to use the project as a catalyst to expand green hydrogen applications, accelerate the commercialization of advanced equipment technologies and attract upstream and downstream suppliers to the region.
The city aims to strengthen its wind power and green hydrogen industries and establish a leading provincial hub for integrated wind, solar, energy storage and hydrogen development.
